A Lawyer’s Job is to protect his client and assure that his client’s wishes are fulfilled. By recommending certification to each client who meets a specific “at risk” profile, the lawyer is taking appropriate steps to ensure that the Will he prepared for his client will not be successfully challenged on competency. It is important to confirm competency early in the client’s senior years.
The Portrait Health Competency Evaluation Team includes Medical Professionals and Clinical Psychologists who evaluate a person's cognitive functioning, memory capacity and reasoning capability. These factors are important in determining whether an individual is competent to execute a Will, to determine medical directives relating to long-term care, or create a trust.
